Emergency Child Care Subsidy Information

Essential workers and at-risk populations may now apply for emergency child care subsidies. Please note:

  • Emergency child care subsidy applications will be processed according to priorities established by the California Department of Education (CDE) that can be found here.
  • Vouchers will not be issued for care until money is received from the California Department of Education. We have not been given a timeframe for that.

How to Apply

To apply for an emergency child care voucher, you must fill out two forms:

This form should be completed as much as possible

One of our Family Eligibility Coordinators will follow up with you to complete the application. This could take up to a week depending on volume and following CDE’s enrollment priorities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I eligible for an emergency child care subsidy?

If you have a child at-risk or are an essential worker that cannot work remotely with family assets under $1 million dollars, then you are most likely eligible. The full guidelines can be found here.

Will everyone who is eligible receive a voucher?

We’re not sure. The amount of money that will be available to San Mateo County is not yet known.

Will the voucher cover the full cost of care?

Depending on the child care provider that is chosen and the fees charged, there may be a family co-pay needed. CDE has limits on the amount the vouchers can cover.

When will I receive my voucher?

Vouchers will be approved as soon as money is available from the State. We do not have a timeframe but are actively pursuing this on a daily basis.

When should I get in touch with 4Cs?

Once you submit your application, there is no need to contact 4Cs regarding the voucher. We will contact you to complete the application and again once the subsidy money is available.
